Expecting

A co-worker gleefully told me this morning that she is expecting (a baby). Why can’t people just say they’re pregnant? ‘Expecting’ sounds so uninvolved.

So anyway, she told me I’m the only one she’s told and swore me to secrecy, which made me feel all special, and felt I’d have this bond with the child because I’m the only one who knew of its existence or whatever. Except she’s told a million other people in the office they were the only ones who knew. What kind of pregnant woman does that? bitch be playing us

And is it just me or is there something not quite right about congratulating someone for getting pregnant? Isn’t that like cheering for a job half done? A little premature, wouldn’t you say? Also, I’m not always sure if their being pregnant is supposed to be a good thing. Although, they’re always pretty cool about it even if it’s unexpected which I find consoling in a weird way.
